About the FireRed Team Builder
The FireRed Team Builder lets you plan a team of up to six Pokémon and see how it holds up defensively and offensively. Pick Pokémon from the FireRed dataset and the tool calculates your team's weaknesses, resistances, immunities and type coverage straight away.
All matchups use the Generation III type chart that Pokémon FireRed runs on. That means there is no Fairy type, and Steel still resists Ghost and Dark. Dual types are multiplied together, so a Rock attack against a Fire/Flying Pokémon is 4× effective, and an Ice attack against a Grass/Ground Pokémon is 4× as well.
- Weaknesses and resistances are counted per attacking type across your whole team.
- Type coverage is based on each Pokémon's own types (STAB). Individual movesets are not analyzed.
- Abilities, held items and damage calculations are not included, so effects such as Levitate are not reflected in the results.
Reading your team’s results
Shared weaknesses matter most. If several of your six Pokémon are weak to the same attacking type, one opposing move type can put most of the team at risk, so check the weakness counts before judging individual Pokémon. A 4× weakness is a bigger problem than a 2× weakness, and a resistance or immunity only helps if that Pokémon can safely switch in.
FireRed cannot give you some Pokémon in normal play. They can still be added so you can plan around them, and they are tagged “LeafGreen only” or “Event only”. The suggestions only recommend non-legendary Pokémon that FireRed can obtain.
