Pokémon Ghost Grey doesn’t need most of the cheats people search for, because the game already hands you the big ones: an unlimited Rare Candy key item, a dedicated grinding area called The Fight Club, unlimited-use TMs, and an EXP Share you can buy early. What it does not have is a creator-documented cheat menu or a confirmed-safe list of GameShark or CodeBreaker codes. This page separates what is built in and confirmed from what is only claimed online. For setup and patching, see our Pokemon Ghost Grey guide.
Quick Answer: Does Pokémon Ghost Grey Have Cheats?
Not in the traditional sense. Here is where things stand:
- No creator-documented cheat menu. The creator’s release thread and feature list don’t describe a built-in cheat menu, NPC cheat system, or in-game codes.
- No creator-documented GameShark or CodeBreaker support. The creator doesn’t say whether those code types are supported.
- Traditional FireRed codes are not confirmed safe. Ghost Grey is heavily modified, so compatibility hasn’t been reliably verified.
- Built-in shortcuts cover several common cheat needs — fast leveling above all.
Unlimited Rare Candy is already built in. It’s a reusable key item, so a Rare Candy cheat isn’t needed.
Unlimited Rare Candy Is Already Built In
The creator’s feature list includes an “unlimited Rare Candy key item.” Because it’s a reusable key item, there’s no stock to run out of. The creator describes leveling as quick and easy for players who want it, so using it is your choice.
That covers the most common reason people search for a Rare Candy cheat. You don’t need a Rare Candy GameShark code, and there isn’t one on this page.
One caution: a small number of community reports mention freezes when using a registered Rare Candy through quick-select in some RetroArch/mGBA setups. This is a limited community report, not a confirmed bug that affects everyone. If it happens to you, try using the Rare Candy from the bag menu instead, and keep a backup of your save.
The Fight Club Grinding Area
Alongside the Rare Candy, the creator lists a dedicated grinding area called The Fight Club. The creator presents it as part of making leveling quick and easy, so if you want to power up a team without a code, that area is the built-in option. We’re keeping details light because the creator’s feature list only describes it as a dedicated grinding area and doesn’t explain how it works.
Unlimited-Use TMs
According to the creator, TMs in Ghost Grey have unlimited uses, and HMs can be forgotten and have been buffed to be more useful in battle. In practice that removes the need for “infinite TM” style codes: you can teach a move, then reuse the same TM on the next Pokémon.
EXP Share and Other Progression Shortcuts
The creator’s feature list says a purchasable EXP Share, an ability-changing item, and an EXP-boosting item are available as early as the first city. Those are the only extra shortcuts we’re confident listing, because they come straight from the creator. The feature list doesn’t give prices or exact item names, so we don’t either.
No EV, IV or Breeding Cheats Needed
Ghost Grey removes several systems that traditional cheats usually target. Per the creator, EVs, IVs, and Hidden Power are not in the game; every Pokémon has 0 IVs and can’t gain EVs through battles or items; and there are no eggs or breeding. That means max-IV, max-EV, EV-training, and egg-hatching cheats are aimed at mechanics that don’t exist here, and we don’t recommend codes for them. The same goes for badges: Ghost Grey has seven, so a cheat built around a different badge count doesn’t match the game.
Ghost Grey patches onto FireRed Rev 0 but heavily modifies the game. New Pokémon, moves, items, mechanics, and areas mean the game no longer behaves like the original.
Do Normal FireRed Cheat Codes Work in Ghost Grey?
Ghost Grey patches onto FireRed Rev 0 (v1.0), according to community guides and discussion, so check the creator’s download page for the exact base ROM requirement. Our FireRed ROM guide explains how Rev 0 differs from Rev 1. But the hack changes the game a great deal: the creator’s release post describes over 200 Ghost Pokémon (including 120+ original regional variants), new moves, new items, updated mechanics, and a full graphical overhaul.
Traditional GameShark and CodeBreaker codes for vanilla FireRed are written around the original game’s memory layout. In a heavily modified game, a vanilla code might:
- do nothing at all,
- change the wrong data,
- freeze the game, or
- corrupt a save.
We can’t say any specific code will do one of these things, and we can’t say it won’t. Compatibility hasn’t been reliably verified, and the creator hasn’t documented cheat support.
Online Ghost Grey codes are currently unverified. Until reliable evidence appears, treat any code you find as an experiment, not a promise.
What About the Codes Found Online?
One major cheat site publishes a list of Ghost Grey codes and says it tested them itself. We haven’t found independent confirmation of those codes from players in the creator’s release thread, forums, or videos, so we aren’t repeating them. We don’t print any code strings on this page, and we don’t list any code as working, verified, tested, or safe.
Here are the kinds of cheats people search for, and where each one stands:
| Cheat type | Status | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Master Ball | UNVERIFIED | Claimed on one site; no independent confirmation |
| Walk Through Walls | UNVERIFIED | The creator’s v1.02 patch notes list walkable walls as a bug that was fixed |
| Infinite EXP | UNVERIFIED | Rarely needed with unlimited Rare Candy and The Fight Club |
| Wild Pokémon modifier | UNVERIFIED | A hack that adds 120+ original variants makes any code that depends on Pokémon numbering especially risky |
| Shiny | UNVERIFIED | No creator or independent confirmation |
| Infinite PP | UNVERIFIED | No creator or independent confirmation |
If reliable evidence appears — a reproducible test that names the Ghost Grey version, the emulator, and the FireRed ROM revision, ideally confirmed by more than one player — we’ll update this page.
Back up your save before testing any third-party code. A bad code can corrupt a save, and a backup is the only reliable way to recover.
Before Testing Any Ghost Grey Cheat Code
If you decide to experiment anyway, these steps reduce the damage when something goes wrong. They don’t make an unconfirmed code safe.
- Make an in-game save before you turn anything on.
- Back up the save file separately (the .sav file your emulator creates), in a different folder.
- Enable one code at a time, so you know which one caused a problem.
- Never save after visible corruption or glitches — garbled text, missing sprites, odd items, or freezes. Close the game without saving.
- Disable the code after use instead of leaving it running.
- Keep an untouched backup from before you started experimenting, and don’t overwrite it.
Android Players: GBA Play
Android players can use GBA Play. Its Play Store listing mentions manual save states, automatic save backups, and .sav import/export, which are handy for the backup steps above, and it also describes adding and toggling cheats per game in GameShark-style, CodeBreaker, Pro Action Replay, and VBA-style formats. That is general emulator functionality: the listing says nothing about Ghost Grey, and supporting a code format doesn’t mean any particular code is compatible with the game. GBA Play is a general-purpose emulator, not an official Ghost Grey tool.
FAQ
Does Pokémon Ghost Grey have cheats? Not in the traditional sense. The creator doesn’t document a cheat menu or a built-in code system. The game does include several built-in shortcuts, led by an unlimited Rare Candy key item and The Fight Club grinding area.
Is there a Rare Candy cheat for Ghost Grey? There’s no verified Rare Candy cheat, and you don’t need one. Rare Candy is already a reusable key item.
Does Ghost Grey already have unlimited Rare Candy? Yes. The creator’s feature list includes an unlimited Rare Candy key item.
Do FireRed cheats work in Ghost Grey? That hasn’t been reliably confirmed. Ghost Grey patches onto FireRed Rev 0 but changes the game heavily, so vanilla FireRed codes might fail, change the wrong data, freeze the game, or corrupt a save. We can’t say whether any specific code will or won’t.
Can I use GameShark codes in Ghost Grey? Many emulators accept GameShark-style codes, but the creator doesn’t document support for them in Ghost Grey, and we haven’t found reliable confirmation that any specific code behaves as advertised. If you try one, follow the backup steps above.
Is there a Master Ball cheat? One cheat site lists one, but we haven’t found independent confirmation, so we treat it as unverified and don’t print it.
Why don’t EV or IV cheats work? Because the systems don’t exist. Per the creator, EVs, IVs, and Hidden Power are not in the game, every Pokémon has 0 IVs, and Pokémon can’t gain EVs through battles or items. There are no eggs or breeding either.
Can cheats corrupt my Ghost Grey save? Yes, it’s a risk with any cheat code, and Ghost Grey’s heavy modifications make the outcome of vanilla FireRed codes harder to predict. Back up your save before testing anything and never save over a glitched game.
Final Thoughts
For most players, the honest answer to “which Ghost Grey cheats should I use?” is “probably none.” Unlimited Rare Candy, The Fight Club, unlimited-use TMs, and an early EXP Share already cover the most common reasons people reach for cheats, and EV, IV, and breeding cheats have nothing to act on. If you still want to experiment with codes, go in knowing they’re unverified and protect your save first. For setup, patching, and version details, head back to our Pokemon Ghost Grey guide.
Last checked October 9, 2026, against the creator’s release thread, which announced v1.04 on October 6, 2026. The creator has said a larger patch is planned, so details may change.
